中川一郎さんが札幌のホテルでなくなったのが、1983年1月9日。

当時の写真週刊誌を見て驚いたのだが、その直前、新年交礼会のパーティーの壇上での背広姿の中川さんの背中は、汗でびっしょりに見えた。

当時のその写真の解説には、壇上を見守る(総裁選挙時の債権者らしき)偉丈夫な男性軍に威圧されての大量の汗、などとのもっともらしい解説があったが、果たしてそうなのだろうか?

中川一郎さんは、新年会の席上、ウイスキーの水割りを四杯飲み、部屋に入ってからもストレートに近い水割りを何杯も飲み、夫人から睡眠薬を三回もらい飲んだという。

どうも、今回のご子息の中川昭一さんの場合も、この睡眠薬とアルコールの相互作用のなせる業が、背後に感じられるのだ。

いつだったか、私は、パリのドゴール空港の売店で睡眠薬をもとめ、それを帰国機内で飲んだところ、とたんに、前後不覚の状態となって、成田で、あわてて、目を覚ました、という経験がある。

外国の睡眠薬は、恐ろしいものだと、そのとき感じた。

今回の場合は、実際、どうだったのだろう。

日ごろの中川さんの酒好きと(外国のものかもしれない)睡眠薬の摂取の相乗効果が、今回の一件につながってはいないのだろうか。

以下は、毎日新聞の記事の引用だが、次のゴチックの部分の記事が、すごく気になる。

「中川氏はＧ７出席のため１３日昼、羽田発の特別便に搭乗。同行筋によると、機内のファーストクラスの席でカゼ薬などを多めに飲んだ上、酒も飲んだという。

約１３時間のフライトを経て同日夕（現地時間）にローマに到着。直後のガイトナー米財務長官との初の日米財務相会談やＧ７夕食会は無難にこなした。その後、中川氏は男性新聞記者など「親しいひとたち」（中川氏）とサンドイッチをつまみながら、ジントニック３〜４杯を飲んだ。その際、睡眠薬を服用したという。 」

1.「DANGEROUS AND ILLICIT DRUGS 」
Regulated Drug - Which includes self-inducing sedatives, such as secobarbital, phenobarbital, pentobarbital, barbital, amobarbital and any other drug which contains a salt of a derivative of a salt of barbituric acid; any salt, isomer or salt of an isomer, of amphetamine, such as benzedrine or dexedrine, or any drug which produces a physiological action similar to amphetamine; and hypnotic drugs, such as methaqualone, nitrazepam or any other compound producing similar physiological effects; (As amended by PD No.1683 dated March 14, 1980).

Recreational abuse of hypnotics is nonmedical use for
purposes of becoming intoxicated or “high.”2 An example
of this type of abuse would be the use of a large dose
of pentobarbital, flunitrazepam, or diazepam, perhaps in
combination with opioids or alcohol. Recreational abusers
are typically young males between 18 and 25 years old
who usually obtain their hypnotics illicitly.

Common adverse effects associated
with many hypnotics include a withdrawal syndrome,
overdose toxicity, psychomotor impairment and risk of
falls, memory and cognitive impairment, and interactions
with alcohol.
